From the Counseling Department

Registration for next year’s classes is upon us! Here is some information for parents by grade level:

 

Current 5th grade:

Nov 22 – purple Recommendation forms need to be returned to your child’s homeroom teacher.

Course Request verifications were scheduled to go home in January, but may come home before winter break. Your child’s teacher will send those home when available with a return date printed on it.

 

Current 6th grade:

Dec 9 – Mrs. Noell will be discussing the registration process. I will meet with absent students on Tuesday or Wednesday.

What to expect:

  • Students will bring home a blue form that has their Teacher Recommendations for their core courses listed at the top (math, English, science, history) and the elective options.
  • Students and parents will select one elective on the form.
  • If you review the Teacher Recommendations and feel that a change needs to be made to the course recommended, please indicate that on the form before returning it.
  • Parent signature is required on all forms.
  • Students must turn this form in to their Math teacher by December 13.

A PDF version of the presentation I will be going over in class will be posted so that you can review it and talk with your child about it.

Current 7th grade:

Dec 12-13 – Mrs. Noell will be in English classes to discuss the registration process and elective options with students.

Dec 16-20 – Mrs. Noell will meet with students individually during their English class to review elective choices and answer any questions.

What to expect:

  • Students will bring home green forms that have their Teacher Recommendations for their core courses listed at the top (math, English, science, history) and the elective options and descriptions.
  • Students and parents will select 7 electives on the form in order of preference.
  • If you review the Teacher Recommendations and feel that a change needs to be made to the course recommended, please indicate that on the form before returning it.
  • Parent signature is required on all forms.
  • Students must turn this form in to their English teacher by December 16.
  • Mrs. Noell will meet with students individually the week of Dec 16-20 during English classes to discuss elective selections and correct any duplicate or missing teacher recommendations.

Current 8th grade: Information from GHS Counselors Ms. Molnar and Mrs. McCall

GHS Counselors will be working with students to register for their 9th grade classes. More information to come from GHS Counselors. Below are some dates for you to plan ahead. Note: some dates/times may change. Please go by what is sent out by GHS.

Nov 21  – Parent Registration Information Night at GHS (Auditorium) at 6:00 to discuss graduation requirements, diploma types, elective options, BCAT, RVGS, and typical high school schedule

Dec 12 & 13 – Presentations in English 8 classes to discuss graduation requirements, diploma types, elective options, and typical high school schedule

Dec 16-20 – Individual meetings with GHS Counselors and students to discuss course selection and answer any questions
